Street Fashion Trends

The street fashions found in major cities are an eclectic mixture of originality, creativity and influences from the past and present. Street fashion has always been a reflection of the subculture of its youth and young adults of the time. Designers from the top fashion houses in the world have looked to the streets for inspiration in making their creations.

With the anything goes type of mentality, street fashion has many different looks and styles. Hip Hop is still popular with oversized shirts and track suits complete with hats and jewelry accessories. The punk look had its beginnings way back to Elvis and really made headway with the advent of punk rock bands in the 1970′s. It was a protest against the materialism of mainstream music. Chains, leather, ripped clothing, and t-shirts with vulgar obscenities reflected the rebellious nature of the youth . Elements of punk fashion can still be found in the clothing styles of today.

Studded belts, maxi dresses, skinny jeans, ruffles, and boots are some of the popular trends in street wear. Crocheted or knitted tops, mixed prints and plaids, gladiator sandals are really in vogue right now. Tunic blouses, leggings and Bohemian dresses with colorful patterns can be seen on the streets of any major city. Military style jackets among girls and guys are another look that is gaining a lot of popularity.

Whether it’s looking chic and sophisticated or original and comfortable, that is what street fashion is all about. In a state of perpetual flux, with new trends coming and going, street fashion will never grow old or boring.
